Dr. George Cochran
I am Dr. George Cochran, Dr. George for short. I have created smiles on the same
street in Napoleon since I graduated from Ohio State University in 1974. For the
first five years, I practiced with my brother, Dr. Philip Cochran in the
building two doors from our current office. When we outgrew the office, I moved
down the street three doors and practice there until December of 2000.
In January, 2001 we opened our new facility at the current location of 1066
Chelsea Avenue. I am very proud of the office, a modern structure with an open
airy feeling and lots of light. After practicing in rather cramped quarters, it
is wonderful to work in an office such as we have now. Unfortunately, I believe,
thanks to our great family of patients, we are slowly out growing our new
facility.
I graduated from Napoleon High School in 1968, and entered The Ohio State
University. Knowing from the day I set foot on campus that I wanted to graduate
from dental school, I entered a combined curriculum that allowed me to complete
an eight year program in six and a half years. Thus, I graduated from Ohio
State’s undergraduate school in 1972, and The Ohio State University College of
Dentistry in late 1974.
I enjoy practicing dentistry every day. I do not know what I would be doing had
I not entered the profession. The day to day challenges of recreating healthy
teeth and happy smiles is very rewarding. Often people comment about how, “It
must be terrible being a dentist, having everyone hate to see you.” Nothing
could be farther from the truth! Patients enter with horrible expectations, and
when, through gentle dental care, they leave with a better feeling about their
health and their smile, I become the hero. I take pride in assuring the patient
that I will not work on them until they are total numb, and satisfaction in
treating the patient as I would want to be treated. That is why we say “We Cater
To Cowards”.
When growing up, I hated two things. (Well, maybe three if you count spinach.)
Piano lessons were taught by my Aunt Jo, my mother’s sister. When I had not
practiced much, the message reached my mother before I made it home. Boy, were
those fun times. My other thorn in my side was dental appointments. Since I
rarely brushed except before going to dentist, I experienced many dental
procedures. You see, I also have a degree in “Dental Patient” having spent a
great deal of time in the “CHAIR”. Much to my concern, rarely did I get very
numb and when I did, I was already home. I have sworn to myself to never let
that happen to my patients.
I have eleven children. My oldest daughter is Natasha Cruz, and works with me in
the office. She has two children that think their Grandpa is super. My second
daughter is Nicole Cochran, an assistant manager at National City Bank, and her
daughter agrees with my other grandchildren that I am pretty cool.
The rest of my children are in school here in Napoleon, and range in age from 16
to 7. These nine have various backgrounds ranging from South Korean, Chinese and
Vietnamese to Honduran, Paraguayan, and Guatemalan. Adopting these children has
been by far the greatest accomplishments of my life. Prayerfully this was a
win/win/win situation. A child received a home, I was blessed with wonderful
children to raise me, and a mother somewhere could rest assured that her
children were loved and well cared for. Please consider adoption, there are
millions of children who could benefit for a home such as yours.
Between the family and work, I stay pretty busy. In my spare time, I love Ohio
State Athletics. I enjoy reading and an occasional round of golf. Cedar Point is
an all time favorite place to visit, but I seem to be riding less and less each
year.
I hope that I get to meet you. My goal for my practice is to present the best
options for restoring your mouth to a healthy smile. If I can do that for you in
a manner that is as painless as possible, I have succeeded. I know I will never
make it so you love going to the dentist, but if I can make it a place that you
don’t mind, we have both accomplished a great feat. May God bless you with good
health and happy thoughts.
Dr. Philip E. Cochran
Dr. Philip E. Cochran graduated from The Ohio State University College of
Dentistry in 1964. For the next two year he was on active duty in the Army
Dental Corp and was discharged in 1966 as a Captain. In 1967 he opened his
office in Napoleon and practiced in the same location for 32 years. In 1975
Dr. George joined the practice and after five years space constraints and
the expansion of the patient base required either total remodeling or a new
larger building. The most economical approach of the problem was made
available when a building two doors from theirs became vacant. Reluctantly
breaking the partnership of 5 years the brothers went their own way
practicing separately yet only steps apart. Dr. Phil retired in the fall of
1999. In the spring of 2000 he along with Dr. William Palmer of Florida
Ohio, a friend and former classmate, started as volunteer dentists and began
the dental clinic for low income children at the Henry County Health Dept.
This clinic was expanded to include adults in the fall of 2004 when the Dept
moved into their new facilities. In the fall of 2002 Dr. Phil once again
united forces with his brother this time in Dr. George’s practice after 22
years of practicing separately 19 of those years’ two doors apart. The
transition of working together after this amount of time was made smooth
because of the similarities in their philosophy on how to best treat their
patients which is basically, treat each patient as you would want your
family treated. This was and still is Dr. Phil’s mission for his work.
